International Animation Day

October 28 is International Animation Day in honor of the first public performance Charles-Émile Reynaud’s Théȃtre Optique at the Grevin Museum in Paris in 1892. Shortly afterwards, the cinematograph by the Lumière Brothers outshone Reynaud’s invention, driving Émile into bankruptcy. However his public performance entered the history of optical entertainment.

Each year, ASIFA calls upon a famous animator to create the poster for International Animation Day. It is then adapted for each country in order to guarantee a worldwide view of the event. The Iranian animators/designers Noureddin Zarrinkelk and Negar Zarrinkelk created 2017 IAD poster.

The engraving portrays a performance of Pauve Pierrt as imagined by Louis Poyet and published in La Nature in July 1892
