Camera Day

Several unreliable sources cite June 29 as Camera Day.  The only historical connection in photography history is that the Harlem Renaissance photographer James Van Der Zee was born on that day in 1886.

A professional portraitist, he gained worldwide recognition when his work was featured in the exhibition Harlem on My Mind at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 1967 when Van Der Zee was 81 years old.
