December Solstice

The December solstice occurs Friday, December 21, 2018 at 10:23 pm GMT.

Since 1993, Same Sky, a community arts group in Brighton, UK, has organized The Burning of the Clocks which is a procession of lanterns and costumes, all containing clock faces.

The procession makes its way through Brighton city centre to the seafront where the festivities culminate in a lantern bonfire. The clock face represents the passing of time and the time, and sometimes the Burning of the Clocks takes place on New Year’s Eve.

This year AKRA Original Funerals is partnering with Same Sky to give people the opportunity to light a lantern in memory of a loved one.

It is very much like the lantern festival in China, which takes place one week after Chinese New Year. Lit lanterns are also released into the sky.
