One thing I do not want for 365 Holidays a Year is a decent into the sentimental, so I was reluctant to post International Friendship Day, announced to the world by the United Nations in 1998, naming Winnie the Pooh as the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at an even sponsored by the UN and Disney and hosted by Kathy Lee Gifford. (Gag me with a rake.)

However it does have some legitimacy. The World Friendship Crusade founded by Dr. Ramón Artemio Bracho in Puerto Pinasco, Paraguay in 1958 and celebrates Friendship Day every July 30. It is popular in Latin America, especially Paraguay, India, and Asia.
If you can read Spanish, you can learn more about The World Friendship Crusade at its official website.
Most people attribute the holiday to Joyce Hall to promote the sale of cards, and I’m sure this is the main reason, but I hope it can spread some goodwill as well.
