March 20 is World Sparrow Day to raise awareness of the house sparrow and birds common to urban environments and of threats to their populations. It is sponsored by Nature Forever Society of India, the Eco-Sys Action Foundation of France and numerous other national and international organisations across the world.
According to World Sparrow Day.org “The house sparrow is believed to be declining for various reasons ranging from the destruction of its habitat to lack of insect food for the young and even the increasing microwave pollution from mobile phone towers.”
Today is also the March equinox, when days and nights are of equal length. From now till June 21, days will be longer than the nights (nights longer than the day in the southern hemisphere.)
