World Wetlands Day

In addition to Groundhog Day, February 2 is also World Wetlands Day in commemoration of the date in 1971 when a group of environmentalists met in Ramsar, Iran to join forces for the protection of global wetlands. Known as the Ramsar Convention, Ramsar.org continues to be one of the repositories for information and events for wetland conservation.

ATTENTION TEACHERS: World Wetlands Day has many teaching resources about wetlands. They also offer grants for small projects in wetland conservation. The application period is from February 2 to March 2, 2022.

There is also a Wetlands Photo Contest where you can see some great nature photos from around the world. Unfortunately the window for submissions is closed for this year, but mark it on your calendar for next year.
